Workshop and Masterclass

Summer Academy Bruckner University Linz
NIKOLAUS HARNONCOURT’S MUSIC AS SPEECH – MAKING MUSIC IS NOT PLAYING NOTES
Wed, 30 July 2025 | 15:00-18:00
Nikolaus Harnoncourt Zentrum at the Bruckner University
10 – 25 participants | participation free of charge
In this three-hour workshop with Maria Kubizek, violon soloist and long-time violinist in the Concentus musicus Wien and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, we will use Harnoncourt’s scores to explore the questions we should ask ourselves in order to turn notes into music. Participants will be introduced to the rhetoric of musical speech, taught musical content and conquer the ‘language of music’ – an indispensable tool for the repertoire from the Baroque and Classical periods. We approach a work together in a practical way and immerse ourselves in the search for meaning.
‘If you have no intention for the piece – don’t play!’
Open to all participants of the International Summer Academy.
Further information and registration details until 20 May can be found here.
